What this paper covers
The first block is elementary mechanics and dynamics: force, moments, equilibrium, simple machines, vectors, speed, velocity, acceleration, work, power, energy, friction, stress, strain, and power transmission. The next block covers chemistry and thermodynamics, including basic matter, laws of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and steam principles.
4A also includes jurisdictional legislation and codes, plant and heating plant safety, environment, material and welding, piping and valves, electricity, plant instrumentation and controls, and plant communication. It is a wide first paper, but the syllabus is built around the same operator job: understand the plant, keep it safe, and know the rules that govern it.
