What this paper covers
The syllabus starts with applied mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, mensuration, and logarithms used in engineering calculations. After that comes applied mechanics, where you work with forces, vectors, friction, velocity, acceleration, work, power, energy, moments, simple machines, stress, strain, beam bending, and fluid pressure and flow.
Thermodynamics on 3A1 covers temperature scales, expansion of solids and liquids, heat, specific heat, changes of state, steam tables, dryness fraction, equivalent evaporation, heat transfer, the laws of thermodynamics, and gas laws with work and efficiency. The applied science block adds basic chemistry, atoms and molecules, chemical equations, acids and bases, combustion and corrosion, metallurgy, engineering materials, and industrial drawings such as PFDs, P and IDs, equipment layouts, and material balance.
