2B2 is the control-and-systems paper in Second Class Part B. It is less about one machine and more about how the whole plant is arranged, monitored, and protected.
What this paper covers
Power plant systems includes feedwater systems, regenerative feed heating, closed feed systems, feed heaters, deaerators, steam piping systems, fuel systems, steam condensate systems, cooling water systems, waste handling systems, and the integration of water systems.
Control instrumentation covers pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement, including sensing elements, installation, indicating mechanisms, final control elements, boiler feedwater control systems, steam temperature control, pressure reducing and desuperheating systems, and basic automatic control modes.
Fuels and combustion covers fuel chemistry, classification, heat values, handling, combustion calculations, furnaces, burners, draft, combustion safeguards, control systems, flue-gas analysis, and environmental protection equipment and monitoring.

The paper uses the standard Second Class MCQ format, so speed and recognition matter as much as content knowledge.

What trips people up
This paper is full of systems that sound similar. Feedwater, condensate, cooling water, and waste handling all live near each other conceptually, and candidates lose marks when they cannot separate the purpose of one loop from another.
Instrumentation questions punish vague memory. You need to know what is measured, how it is transmitted, what the final control element does, and what failure mode the loop is trying to avoid.
Combustion and environmental protection questions often look like a grab bag. They are easier when you group them by function, such as firing, draft, safeties, monitoring, and emissions treatment.

How to study it
Study plant systems as flow paths. Draw the water, steam, fuel, and cooling loops yourself until the relationships are clear, then add controls to each loop.
Work instrumentation with repeatable diagrams and labels. If you can sketch the measurement path and final element from memory, you are in good shape.
Leave combustion and environmental protection for timed review sessions once the plant systems are stable, because that section is easier to memorise after the system map is in your head.
