2B1 is the first Part B paper for Second Class. It combines rotating equipment, lubrication, piping, and drawing, so candidates need both plant knowledge and visual thinking.

What this paper covers

The prime mover section covers steam turbines, condensers, internal combustion engines, and gas turbines. You need to know operating principles, construction, control, operation, maintenance, theory, and the supporting systems around each machine.

The lubrication section covers plant lubrication programmes, oil systems for compressors, gas turbines, internal combustion engines and steam turbines, oil maintenance, additives, purification, and lubrication of ball and roller bearings.

The piping and drawing sections cover piping material selection, code procedures, strength, high-temperature effects, support, expansion, drainage, water hammer, layouts, and the reading and production of pictorial, orthographic, auxiliary, isometric, oblique, sectional, and industrial drawings.
