Red Seal refrigeration exam format
The Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic exam is not a mystery if you read the public page. Practice should copy that shape, not someone else's items.
What the public sitting looks like
From Red Seal exam information: 125 questions, four options each, 4 hours, 70% to pass, and a formula sheet provided at the sitting. Confirm those numbers with Red Seal and your provincial office before you register. They can change.
- Knowledge: about 20–30%
- Procedural: 50–60%
- Critical: 10–20%
What this means for practice
That mix is why a dump of memorized fact cards fails people. Most of the paper is what do you do, not what is the definition. A useful bank copies the shape, not the items.
- Timed 125-question mocks, not only 20-question snacks
- Procedural and diagnosis items, not only formula plugs
- Distractors that match real mistakes (wrong delta-T, swapped psig/psia, TXV vs cap tube)
- Explanations that say why the other three fail
